Democratic Senator Carole Migden: author of Senate Bill 319

Kudos to Mike Weimer, CFT lobbyist and Mary Bergen, CFT president for networking with Kerry Mazzoni and Carole Migden, 3rd District California Senator, who authored SB319 which corrects the inequity of revenue limit funding to Charter Schools. Beginning in the 2006-2007 school year, SB319 will save NUSD $100,000 annually.
This could not have happened without the advocacy of our Local 1986. On April 13, 2005, Joe Morgan testified in front of the Senate Committee on Education at the State Capitol, to explain that NUSD was subsidizing the charter school with funds that are supposed to be available for the instruction of our district's non-charter pupils. Through Joe's efforts, the fledgling bill passed the Senate Committee and moved to the Assembly Committee for more discussion and finally confirmation on the Senate floor. We can have influence !
