Contract Talk

Our current Contract expires in June 2006. Joe Morgan and Bob Cline have been visiting school sites asking for suggestions to bring forward as negotiations resume in April. Ideas have included compensation for intermediate grade teachers who have 30 parent conferences, incentives for teachers who only take up to 2 sick days per year and limiting high school class size in Physical Education. Let the NFT know if you have a good idea to bring forward.

The latest Governor's budget which will be finalized in July is showing a COLA of 5.2% for the 2006-2007 school year. NFT has an automatic Contract reopener if COLA is larger than 4.5%.

It is very important that the Governor and Legislature understand that Prop 98, the mandate by the voters of California to support public schools, be fully funded. Write or call your local elected officials to let them know that Prop 98 is a priority.

How's it going?

One of the important Contract changes this year was Article 10:1 regarding evaluation procedures. "The option exists for a permanent certificated employee to be evaluated on a five year cycle if the employee meets the following criteria:
-has been employed at least ten years with NUSD.
-is highly qualified per NCLB.
-previous evaluation rated the employee as meeting or exceeding standards.
-the employee and evaluator agree to the five year cycle."
The Executive Board would like to know if these changes are being implemented by administration at the various district sites. Please email the NFT using the Contact Us link at the right of this page and let us know your comments or concerns regarding this new policy.
